Balle Soniye!

I'm a 21 year old college student living the "Gori Girl in a Desi World" life. I bleed bhangra: dance it, write about it, even dream about it. I'm currently dancing on an absolutely amazing team and traveling the world, which brings all sorts of crazy into my life. These are my thoughts and adventures.

Aishwarya Rai is a flawless Queen. I don’t know how anyone can get over how beautiful she is.

Flawless Queen.

Bollywood: Starring in 3 movies does not make you a superstar or qualify you as a “legend”. Lumping up-in-coming actresses like Anushka Sharma and Sonam Kapoor with the likes of Madhuri Dixit and Rani Mukherjee….WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK ARE YOU THINKING?!

Madhuri Dixit: 67 films in 28 years. 14 Filmfare Nominations, 16 major awards, 27 major award nominations, and a Padma Shri.

Rani Mukherjee: 46 films in 15 years. 13 Filmfare Nominations and 7 wins. Only actress in history to win both the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress award at the Filmfare Awards in a single year (2005). 52 Major Awards and 91 Nominations.

Aishwarya Rai: 42 films in 15 years. 10 Filmfare Nominations (2 wins), 7 IIFA Awards and 13 Nominations, 7 Star Screen Awards and 10 Additional Nominations.

Kajol Devgan: 38 films in 20 years. Most Filmfare Best Actress Awards (6) and 11 Total Nominations. 4 Star Screen Awards and 10 additional nominations.

Anushka Sharma: 5 films.

Sonam Kapoor: 7 (really bad) films.

Sonakshi Sinha: 3 Films.

Not trying to bash these newcomers, because in 15 years they may be incredibly successful and have a bunch of awards and groundbreaking films, but today is not that day. I like their movies as much as the next person and I’m even willing to overlook the fact that Anushka Sharma can’t dance to save her life because she is so lovely. They’re new and promising, but they’re not in the same league as the “legends”.

Having a couple of box office hits does not put you at the same level as Madhuri Dixit.

I keep seeing things all over the media about how “fat” Aishwarya Rai has gotten after having her baby in November. The stories and the pictures and the youtube videos are horrible and it’s just amazing to me how people can bully someone else like that. It’s completely normal for a woman to gain weight during her pregnancy and just because she doesn’t lose it on “Hollywood/Bollywood time” doesn’t mean it’s ok to publicly humiliate her because of her weight.

People make such a huge deal out of bullying yet we’re ok with bullying public figures because “it’s their job to be what I want to see”. She’s a human being and a mother and she’s still amazingly beautiful with or without the extra pounds. I’m sure she’ll drop the weight when she feels like it and then everyone who is bitching at her now will be kissing her feet again. It’s just sad, especially in Indian culture which practically idolizes the concept of motherhood, yet is now making it seem like a perfectly natural part of having a baby is disgusting. It’s a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” scenario and I just think it’s bullshit because, HELLO, they called her fat last year at Cannes and now they’re using them as her “hot” before pictures?! What the actual fuck? You make fun of her then and now you want to backtrack?

It’s just sad and it’s frustrating to see it everywhere. She’s set to walk the red carpet at Cannes in four days so I really hope she looks amazing and everyone has to go and suck it. I still think she’s the bomb.
